Greetings everyone;
I hope this letter finds you physically, mentally, and spiritually well and rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many people are focused on changes these days. Covid 19 has brought about many changes to people’s lives. It has redirected the way we do business in this economy and has even brought about alterations in our lives at home. I want to take a few minutes to let you know what transformations are being made at ATLAS.
A Time for Change
There has been an abundance of change within ATLAS these past few months. To start with, our Redeemed Remnants van was worn out and on its last legs. It was sold for scrap and the search for another van ensued. Our van is vital for the business that Redeemed Remnants does, picking up and delivering all sorts of items for the thrift store. To be without a van just wouldn’t do, and God knows that. We prayed and waited and searched until God’s perfect timing was revealed to us. The ideal van awaited us in Watertown, SD.
It’s exciting to pause and to look back as to how His perfect plan unfolded before us. It tells us something about Him but also something about ourselves. It had to be the right van for us. We witnessed donations coming in to fill a gap. The selling of our trailer to the Beaver Creek Sportsman’s Club, another wonderful nonprofit, helped to secure our financial position to move forward. So many things came together at the proper time which is God’s time. Today, there is a large bright yellow van with the Redeemed Remnants logo on each side traveling the highways of Rock County. When you see it, be reminded that God does have a plan for your business, your family, and your life.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
More Changes
In early June our Director, Lonna Heideman, left our ATLAS family for another career opportunity. I was asked by the Board to be the Interim Director and accepted that responsibility. I had been with ATLAS for almost 2 years with the responsibilities of our Workplace Chaplaincy Program and male mentoring duties while assisting the director. After prayer and affirmation, on August 27th, I accepted the position of Director at ATLAS offered by the Board. I am honored and eager to serve as the new director.
More changes at ATLAS came about with the subsequent leaving of Laura Luitjens, our Administrative Assistant. Laura is tending to other things in her life right now, her family being high on that list. Both Lonna and Laura will be missed by me and others. I have had a most enjoyable work relationship with both and have prayed, laughed, cried with them, and learned many things from them. Working here can be most challenging at times but having supporting people around makes it much easier.
On September 22nd, ATLAS hired Loree Ness for the position of Assistant to the Director. Loree is a Luverne native and has just returned to the community after being away for many years. Another staff member that joined us recently is Jeane Leslie. Jeane has worked at Redeemed Remnants before and is a familiar face to many. I look forward to working with them and to see what God has planned for Atlas and others with this new addition to staff and our mission work here.
ATLAS…What is that?
Atlas has been in Rock County for over 5 years. I still hear this question whispered from Luverne and other parts of Rock County. “What is ATLAS?”
ATLAS is an acronym for Attain Truth, Love And Self-control. This is what we want for everyone we come in contact with. A more lengthy description is that we are a faith based, Christ centered, interdenominational nonprofit ministry who wants to help people. ATLAS offers support by coming alongside and walking with individuals and families through difficult times in their lives. Additional support is extended to businesses in the area through our Workplace Chaplaincy Program.
At ATLAS, we mentor people, help connect them with other local resources, and pray. We support people with their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs as we are able.
We are uniquely blessed at ATLAS by having 3 other ministries under our umbrella:
  1. Redeemed Remnants is our thrift store providing clothing, furniture, and various household items for anyone to purchase at reasonable if not a low price. Redeemed is also a home for our many volunteers who are vital to this ministry and like to give back to the community. God bless our volunteers! Donations of slightly used clothing or other household items in good condition are always needed.
  2. The Loft is a set of apartments that were renovated for the purpose of providing temporary shelter for homeless and or persons in an abusive situation. Giving someone a place to live for a while along with receiving mentoring helps them to assess their situation and to decide the next step forward.
  3. Matthew 6 outreach ministry was set up to assist Rock County residents who are facing life threatening medical conditions. Recipients of funds from this ministry are truly dealing with physical needs. Please call the ATLAS office at 507-449-5777 if you would like to meet with a Matthew 6 representative.
We have been blessed with abundant space at our ATLAS office to be able to support both the One Warm Coat Project through S.H.A.R.E. and also the Backpack Program for school children. This year, the One Warm Coat Project will be on November 5th from 4:00 to 7:00pm and on November 7th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Anyone in need can pick up a coat and other articles of clothing at those times. Donated coats can be dropped off at our office starting on October 1st through the 5th of November.
ATLAS, and the various unique ministries within ATLAS, serves your friend, your neighbor, or a stranger you have not met. It doesn’t matter who is in need, we are here to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Your donations given to ATLAS are for your communities in your county helping those in need. When we help people to succeed in life, we strengthen our communities.
I ask of you to give and to give generously. Our total mission at ATLAS is made possible by your gifts. The Bible teaches that as we bless others, so we are blessed by God and He is the one who multiplies those blessings.
We are truly grateful for all your support in the past and we eagerly look forward to serving you and your neighbor in the future with your continued gifts. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to ATLAS, you can make a check payable to ATLAS of Rock County or you can set up an automatic withdrawal from your checking account. ACH forms are available at the ATLAS office or at Redeemed Remnants. Donating via our website will be available in the near future. If you would like to donate to Matthew 6, please make your check payable to Matthew 6.
We at ATLAS are honored to be a servant to so many. By being a servant and by being least, we are changed into the image of Christ. Let us all look forward to that kind of change taking place in our lives.
The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the blessed communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. God Bless!
